We are a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) rendering the following services to the elderly in the western area of e`Thekwini (
greater Highway area & surrounds) guided by the provisions of the Older Persons Act of 2006.

Direct Intervention:

These services are available to elderly who are neglected and abused, or simply challenged by growing old. They may be living in unsafe environments lacking necessary assistance with everyday living, or living in unsuitable environment in relation to an older person`s special needs.

Social Pension not serving the interests of the aged person
Lack of involvement in activities of interest to the elderly
Inaccessible Health Services
Overburdened with unrelated responsibilities e.g. providing and caring for grandchildren
Lack of services related to traumatic experiences. E.g. Verbal, physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse
Services include:-

Individual counselling
Facilitating family conferences
Facilitating engagement of specialised agencies
Facilitating networking with various government departments
Facilitating engagement of services of Community Health Workers, Community Development Workers and Home Base Carers.
Facilitating admission of the elderly to Old Age Homes
Facilitating formation of Senior Citizen Clubs to engage in activities of interest & recreation e.g. Cultural days, Honour the Aged celebrations and social outings.

Development & Preventative Services:

We engage extensively in Awareness Programmes for older persons, especially in underdeveloped areas.
We also provide education on the Older Persons Act to various service providing organisations relative to the well being of the elderly.
The Elderly are motivated to engage in activities that promote team spirit in their clubs and also make them financially independent.
These include sewing, gardening, beadwork, knitting and catering.
They are also provided with skills on formation of Committees, running of meetings, record keeping, marketing and club savings.

Supportive Services:

The Elderly, after assessment by one of our social workers are assisted with food parcels, poor relief, bus fares, transportation to various Government offices, health clinics, district surgeons, hospitals and old age homes.
